UPDATE: RCMP find alleged sexual assault in Richmond did not happen

UPDATE: After completing an investigation into the allegations of a sexual assault to a 18-year-old woman, police determined the assault did not happen and the public is not at risk.

Previous story: Richmond RCMP are investigating an alleged sexual assault of a young female that occurred early Friday evening.

The 18-year-old female told police she was walking towards the Paulik Park Community Garden around 7:30 p.m., when she was approached from behind by the unknown attacker. The assailant pushed the female to the ground and forcibly sexually assaulted her, yet the woman managed to fight off the man and escape.

The suspect has been described as male, 5’10” to 5’11” tall, wearing dark pants, dark dress shoes, and a dark puffy jacket.

Investigators are actively canvassing the area and analyzing surveillance footage, a spokesperson for the RCMP said in a release.
