The grandson of an 81-year-old woman who died after being hit by a car in Toronto’s north end said his family’s chain is now “broken.”
“She was full of light. She loved everyone so much and to see her go now it’s really hard,” Ryon Dalir said while reflecting on his grandmother, who was visiting from Iran.
“She does this all the time – she walks around. Yeah, it’s a busy intersection, but it’s a peaceful neighbourhood – how can someone just hit someone on the sidewalk?”
Emergency crews responded to Silverdale Crescent and York Mills Road just before 12 p.m. after a 2006 Toyota Corolla left the road for a yet-to-be-determined reason and struck the woman.
A doctor in the area at the time treated her at the scene.
Police said the woman had serious head injuries and later died.
The 26-year-old driver remained at the scene and police closed off the area for the investigation.
Tuesday’s incident marks the city’s 29th fatal collision involving a pedestrian.
