Manitobans living in the northern part of the province may be in for an early winter surprise.
Environment Canada issued a winter storm warning just after 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
Substantial amounts of snow, between 30 -50 cm are expected through Thursday night.
Here are the areas that are affected:
- Lynn Lake – Leaf Rapids – Pukatawagan
- Thompson – Nelson House – Split Lake
- Flin Flon – Cranberry Portage – Snow Lake
Final numbers will likely vary due to melting.
“Both Flin Flon and Thompson should see lesser final amounts as warmer temperatures and a rain/snow mix linger into early Wednesday,” said Environment Canada.
Strong winds out of the northeast will also accompany the snow with gusts up to 80 kilometres per hour.
Meanwhile, rainfall warnings remain are in place for western and central Manitoba, with 50-100 millimetres of rain expected by Wednesday evening.
In southern Manitoba, shower activity is likely to persist throughout the week but with temperatures cooling close to the freezing mark, there are some models that are calling for flurries Thursday night in the Parkland area.
