After months of excitement, the Village of Lumby is finally reaping the rewards of winning the Kraft Hockeyville competition for 2016.
Celebrations have been happening all weekend, including a visit to the community by several former and current NHL players who are putting on free workshops, and a public viewing of the Stanley Cup.
The big event happens Sunday night at Kal Tire Place, where a pre-season NHL game will take place between the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings.
Tickets for the game were won by lottery.
Game time is 6 p.m.
The benefits of winning will last long into the future for the small community of less than 2,000.
It will also receive a $100,000 grant to fix up the local rink, the Pat Duke Memorial Arena.
