Despite a press release from the BC Tree Fruits Cooperative that states the board “served Chief Executive Officer Alan Tyabji with his early notice of termination,” Tyabji says he was not fired.
Tyabji told Global News that he had made it clear to the board he would be leaving the CEO position at the end of the term.
Tyabji said he took the CEO job as part of a five-year plan to regain grower confidence.
Now, four years into his term, he feels the cooperative is moving from a planning phase to a more operational phase, and his work is done.
Amarjit Lalli, a fruit grower from Kelowna, has nothing but praise for Tyabji.
“We had four really good years under Alan,” said Lalli. “He has done an excellent job moving forward and hopefully the next person will do the same.”
The BC Tree Fruits Cooperative press release states that Tyabji will stay on for the next six weeks to help find a CEO and help them transition into the role.
It also thanks Tyabji for his passion, efforts, and years of service to the industry.
