Westpark Elementary School parent claims vanished crosswalk will be repainted

A crosswalk that was recently removed outside of Westpark Elementary School will now be making a return, according to one student’s parent.

The crosswalk was removed over a week ago and Darryl Levine started a petition and email campaign to bring the crosswalk back.

“The problem is that people actually use it a lot,” he said.

“It’s a natural place to cross. When I saw they had scraped it away, I told my kids, ‘I’m going to call the city and see if I can get it back.’”

According to Levine, the crosswalk will be repainted as soon as weather permits.

The removing of the crosswalk caused quite a stir among parents as it was used by many of the school’s students.

“There’s so many students who use it on a daily basis,” Sonny Aluf said as he dropped off his two children. “There’s lots of cars passing and several hundred students who go to Westpark.”

At the time of the removal, DDO Mayor Ed Janiszewski said there were no plans in place to repaint the crosswalk.
