Toronto karate teacher charged after 9-year-old girl sexually assaulted: police

A 57-year-old Toronto karate instructor has been charged after police say a nine-year-old girl was sexually assaulted during a martial arts lesson.

Peel Regional Police Special Victims Unit responded to a report that a girl was being sexually assaulted by her karate teacher.

Police launched an investigation and said the girl had been sexually assaulted on numerous occasions while she was alone with her instructor.

Satnam Rayat was arrested Saturday and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching. He was held for a bail hearing and made a court appearance Sunday.

Police said Rayat was the owner and operator of “Rayat Karate” in the Bovaird Drive and Williams Parkway area of Brampton.

The investigation is ongoing and police said anyone with further information is asked to contact investigators at the Special Victims Unit at 905-453-2121, ext. 3460 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
