Strathmore RCMP said what had been considered a suspicious cube van parked in a school parking lot east of Calgary is no longer considered to be so following an investigation.
On Monday night, police said the vehicle, although stolen, was considered “non-suspicious” and that they believed it was simply abandoned in the parking lot.
Earlier in the day, Mounties restricted access to a school east of Calgary because of the vehicle.
Officers were called to the parking lot of Khalsa School in Conrich, Alta. at 1:30 p.m. over a complaint of a suspicious vehicle.
Students and staff from the school were safely taken off the premises as a precaution.
“Residences within close proximity to the school are under a restricted access and residents are asked to be patient while the situation is investigated,” RCMP said in a release Monday afternoon.
Mounties said an out-of-town support team was called in to assist in the investigation.
Conrich is located just outside the Calgary city limits, about five minutes from the intersection of Stoney Trail N.E. and McKnight Boulevard.
