A distraught Calgary family has come forward with a heartfelt appeal as they keep a vigil at the hospital bedside their loved one.
It’s believed 63-year-old Clause Pigeault was hit on his motorcycle over the weekend by a driver who fled the scene.
The collision happened on Saturday at around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of 68 Street and Memorial Drive N.E. It’s suspected Pigeault was struck by a vehicle and was thrown from his bike narrowly missing a power pole.
Pigeault is now fighting for his life at the Foothills Hospital intensive care unit. He suffered broken ribs, a bruised lung and a fractured skull.
Pigeault’s wife, Linda, wept as she described seeing him for the first time.
“It was so awful. I was so scared he was gonna die. He’s my best friend, I don’t have a life without him.”
Pigeault’s daughter Yvette Carman said her father is clinging to life.
“His heart stopped numerous times, they had to resuscitate him four times. You don’t want to go see your dad go through that.”
They are pleading to the conscience of a suspected hit and run driver — hoping the person comes forward.
“They’re gonna live with that. To have that type of guilt to leave someone on the road,” Linda Pigeault said. “I don’t care what the reason, just come and tell me. Tell me ‘I’m sorry.'”
Carman is still in disbelief.
“My dad is in the middle of the road and he’s there, he was all alone.”
The family says they have spoken to a witness who believes a silver SUV may be involved. Investigators say they don’t yet have a definite vehicle description and are still looking for more witnesses to come forward.
