There were sirens and flashing lights, fire, barking dogs and a police takedown at the Kelowna International Airport on Thursday, but no real threat.
The airport joined with its emergency response partners to practice what they’d do during an actual threat.
The live exercise mimicked a bomb situation aboard a plane.
More than 20 agencies were involved.
Airport Director Sam Sammaddar says individuals from the various sectors will be debriefed about their role in the exercise.
“So we make sure we capture the information and then we’ll put it all together with the entire team with a full action report following in the next few weeks,” he said.
Large-scale emergency exercises like this are performed at the airport every four years to test the airport’s emergency plan and to allow responders to practice their skills.
