Saskatoon mayoral candidate Don Atchison announced his goal of bringing more sports and recreational facilities to the city if re-elected.
While he offered no timelines and didn’t state a single top-priority project, Atchison said he wanted to “champion that cause.”
He made the announcement outside the Gordie Howe Kinsmen Arena Tuesday.
“That’s what mayors do. Mayors get out there and they, in fact, promote the community,” he said.

He said Saskatoon has a “glaring need” for a multi-sheet ice complex. The aging track at Griffiths Stadium is also in need of replacement, he said.
Aquatics, cricket and rugby were also on his list of desired projects. He also noted growing popularity in other sports like disc golf.
Instead, the city must partner with the provincial and federal governments and other organizations, Atchison said.
The Saskatoon civic election happens Oct. 26.
