Vancouver Whitecaps defender Jay DeMerit and Olympic gold medallist Ashleigh McIvor annunced their engagement on Monday. DeMerit popped the question while the two were hiking this weekend.
The ‘Caps captain joked about the engagement on Twitter, saying that McIvor said yes to his proposal despite his recent haircut.

“You know when you propose to your girlfriend with a mullet and she says YES, she’s the girl for you. So happy!”
McIvor tweeted: “Best Thanksgiving EVER.”
“I didn’t even know it was possible to be this happy. We’ve officially smashed all previous records of all-time happiest moments.”
The couple has been together for nearly two years.
