Edmonton police are searching for the driver of a motorcycle who was nearly hit by a pickup truck in the west end early Saturday morning.
At around 12:40 a.m. police noticed a red Ford pickup truck closely following the motorcycle in the area of 106 Avenue and 142 Street.
The bike and the truck were heading east on 106 Avenue when the truck swerved in an attempt to hit the motorcyclist, police said in a media release Sunday.
The motorcycle headed onto a walking path to Groat Road while the truck took off southbound along 132 Street. Police said the truck sped down 132 Street, through a stop sign at Stony Plain Road and continued to drive aggressively before stopping in the area of 102 Avenue and Wellington Crescent.
The pair in the truck – a man and a woman – then got out and ran into the nearby ravine. With help from the police Canine Unit, officers were able to arrest the pair at around 1 a.m.
The 29-year-old man driving the truck has since been charged with dangerous driving, assault with a weapon, possession of stolen property under $5,000 (stolen licence plate) and a number of breaches.
The 35-year-old woman who was the passenger in the truck has been charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000. She also had six outstanding warrants.
Police are now looking to speak to the driver of the motorcycle in hopes he will have more information about the near collision. Police said he was wearing a black leather jacket, blue jeans and a black helmet.
