Toronto police officer charged with sexually assaulting woman in 2008

Ontario’s police watchdog has charged a Toronto police officer for allegedly sexual assaulting a 28-year-old woman in 2008.

The Special Investigations Unit said in a media release the matter was brought forward in January.

No further details of the circumstances surrounding the incident were released.

The officer has been identified as Const. Vincent Bonazza and he faces one count of sexual assault.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 26.

The SIU investigates all police interactions that involve death, injury or allegations of sexual assault.
