Royal Visit 2016 Day 5: Will and Kate visit Whitehorse, Yukon

WATCH: Prince William and Kate made a stop in the Yukon for day five of their Royal Tour. But as Nadia Stewart reports, their children stole the spot light after they headed out for an adventure in Victoria – Sep 28, 2016

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and his wife Catherine, are visiting Whitehorse today. They spent the night at the Coast High Country Inn for what was their only night of the tour away from Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

They started their day with a visit to the MacBride Museum to learn about Yukon’s history and take in the exhibits. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh visited the telegraph office, now part of the museum, in 1959.

Prince William and Catherine followed in their footsteps today.

In the museum they spent some time with some local children and participated in storytime. The children and elders read Yè Uka Nànnta – Hide and Peek.

The royal couple also helped send the telegraph’s office first ever tweet.

At 10 a.m. they joined in a colourful party on Main Street in Whitehorse and got the chance to meet some people, shake hands and sample some local food.

As usual, babies were a big draw so Prince William had to stop and remark how one baby was dressed properly for the cold weather.

Following the party, the royals made their way by car to Carcross, a town of fewer than 300 people.

They were greeted with traditional music, dancing and some speeches. The couple also changed their wardrobe.

They were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of locals.

The Duchess of Cambridge really enjoyed a dance performed by some local children and the Duke really liked a carving made by the head carver in Carcross.

The Duke and Duchess will then travel a short distance to the beautiful Montana Mountain, which is known for mountain biking.

WATCH: Prince William and Kate were welcomed to Carcross with a performance by Yukon-based dancers and singers

Their Royal Highnesses then travelled down to the bottom of the track and bid farewell to the young people and the community before heading back to Whitehorse Airport and a flight to Victoria.

There they will reunite with their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
