The first fire broke out in a vacant home at 75A Avenue and Scott Road at about 4 a.m. Crews were able to knock it down quickly but a second call quickly followed.

This time, a vacant home in the 7000-block of Nicholson Road near 70 Avenue went up in flames.

Even though the home is empty, neighbours were concerned when they saw the flames because someone has been seen going in and using the shower from time to time.

Delta police said their initial investigation shows the fire possibly started on the upper floor and therefore caused a significant amount of damage to the house. Police said they’ve dealt with squatters at the house in the past but at this point, do not know if any people in the house at the time started the fire.

Major crime investigators are still on the scene of the second house. There were no injuries at either house fire and police said it’s too early to determine any connection between them.
