Condo residents living in downtown Toronto’s CityPlace area are growing increasingly frustrated over the number of power outages they have had to endure in the past two weeks.
“It’s expensive to live downtown and everything is so close by. The next thing you know the lights are out,” resident Omar Tehsin said. “Four times in less than a month, it’s kind of outrageous.”
The latest incident took place around midnight Wednesday when power went out at several of the buildings located near Spadina Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard West.
“The air conditioning isn’t working. We only have cold water. If you want to take a hot shower in the morning, that’s not happening,” resident Patrick Whiffen said. “The stove’s electric so that’s not working either.”

Multiple outages were reported across the city following Wednesday night’s thunderstorm.
Toronto Hydro said they have been working through the early morning hours to restore the electricity.
“It’s hard to get up and down the building. If there’s one elevator running, if there’s an emergency that can cause issues. Overall just a mess,” Tehsin said.
The first outage at CityPlace happened Aug. 28 and lasted five hours. The second and third took place Friday and Sunday.
Hydro officials weren’t able to confirm the source of the first incident, but the latter two experienced equipment issues and feeder “faults.”
The cause of Wednesday’s outage has yet to be confirmed.
