The Pointe-Saint-Charles Aces, a non-profit sports organization, has reached its fundraising goal to provide children from low income families with new football equipment and a van to take them to games.
The organization raised just under $6,000 with the help of 71 people in 10 days.
The team’s coaches said donations, including a $23 donation from five-year-old Aiden Stewart who took out all the money from his piggy bank, started pouring in to their GoFundMe campaign after Global News covered the story last week.

The van they had been using for 15 seasons broke, so the organization asked for the public to help get them get rolling again.
For some of the kids, football is not only a game, it’s a lifesaver as most come from Pointe-Sainte-Charles, Saint-Henri and Ville-Emard, and Little Burgundy, commonly known as poor neighbourhoods.
“It means he’s not getting into trouble, he’s not running around being a hoodlum on the streets,” said Vanessa Higgins, the mother of one of the players in the team.
