A family dog has been seriously injured after it was crushed under a vehicle’s airbags during a crash.
The dog was sitting on it’s owner’s lap when the vehicle was involved in an accident, causing the airbags to deploy.
The collision occurred in Nanaimo on Sept. 1.

None of the drivers or human passengers were hurt but the small lap dog suffered significant internal injuries.
The 45-year-old man who had the dog in his lap has been given a ticket for failing to yield after a stop.
Cst. Gary O’Brien says airbags can deploy at speeds over 300 miles per hour. He adds pets should never be allowed to sit on drivers’ laps.
Along with the potential danger to the pet, a driver could also be charged with driving while obstructed.
