Sixty-five Fort McMurray families who lost their homes in the wildfire and who can afford to pay market rental rates will soon have longer-term temporary homes.
The Alberta government is moving 65 three- and four-bedroom mobile homes to Fort McMurray from Slave Lake in early October.
“This interim housing is a crucial step towards ensuring those who lost their homes have a safe place to stay while they rebuild and recover,” Minister of Municipal Affairs Danielle Larivee said in a statement Thursday.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is working on options for residents who need one or two bedrooms, the statement said.
A demonstration home will be set up on Sept. 9 at the Youth Assessment Centre at 180 Mackenzie Blvd. They can move in starting in mid to late October.

Residents in Fort McMurray must apply in person at the demonstration home. Those living outside the regional municipality who are unable to apply in person can contact the Wood Buffalo Housing and Development Corporation.
The temporary housing units will be located in Parsons Creek and will be available for up to two years.
