The City of Edmonton now has a retroactive collective agreement for 2014, 2015 and 2015 with the Edmonton Police Association after the matter went to an arbitrator.
The city announced the deal Wednesday.
The matter automatically went to binding arbitration when a deal hadn’t been struck before June 11, 2016.
Arbitrator Phyllis Smith awarded police wage increases of 2.4 per cent in 2014, 2.5 per cent in 2015 and 2.75 per cent in 2016.
The city had said wages had been the sticking point in reaching an agreement ahead of the June deadline.
“I think overall, the arbitrators made a reasonable decision that’s not wildly out of step with what we might have expected,” Mayor Don Iveson said Wednesday.”So the actual budget implications of that for council will be brought forward, probably at minimum, in the next quarterly update.”
It is not clear when collective bargaining will begin for when the agreement expires at the end of 2016.
