A Peel Regional Police officer is in serious condition after being struck by a police cruiser in Mississauga responding to a break and enter call, according to Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit.
The collision happened just before 10 a.m. at the corner of Mississauga Road and Barbertown Road when the police vehicle travelling north on Mississauga Road hit the officer.
The male officer, who was working a pay-duty assignment at the time, was taken to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Mississauga Road between Eglinton Avenue West and Erin Centre Boulevard was closed for the investigation.
The SIU is an independent enforcement agency that investigates incidents involving police that have resulted in death, serious injury or alleged sexual assault.
