Alberta Health Services (AHS) issued an advisory Friday to warn of a blue-green algae bloom in parts of Hasse Lake.
People who live near or go to the Parkland County lake are being asked to avoid all contact with the algae blooms and to wash with tap water if contact is made. People are also being told not to swim or wade in the water where algae is visible and not to let their pets do so either.
According to AHS, people who come in contact with or drink water containing blue-green algae can suffer skin irritations, rashes, sore throats, sore red eyes, swollen lips, fever, nausea as well as vomiting or diarrhea.

Also, AHS warned against people or pets eating whole fish or fish trimmings from the lake.
The advisory for Hasse Lake is in place “until further notice.”
AHS also said a contaminated water advisory issued for the lake in June remained in effect. The advisory was issued because of elevated levels of fecal coliforms in the water.
