Evacuees of Bear Creek fire should be home tonight

Evacuees of the Bear Creek fire should be allowed back into their homes Wednesday night.

The Evacuation Order remains in effect for approximately 105 properties in the Traders Cove Subdivision.

Bruce Smith, communications manager with CORD says some outbuildings such as sheds were burned in the fire, and some homes have minor damage, but nothing that would prevent occupants from moving back in.

Smith says power has been restored to the area.

The regional district is expecting that Westside Road will be open to two-way traffic by Wednesday afternoon as well.

The area will remain an active worksite and people are being asked to use caution when driving through the fire zones.

Bear Creek Main Forest Service Road is closed to all traffic except for local residents.

Bear Creek Provincial Park remains closed, as are hiking trails in the area.

People can still expect to see smoke and flame from the area over the next few days.
