Taxicab review underway in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG – An independent review of the taxicab industry in Winnipeg is underway, and the public is being asked to help.

Those who take taxis, including handicabs and limousines, are being asked to share their opinions in an online survey.

An outside consultant group will manage the review.

Focus groups will also be launched with drivers, riders, indigenous groups, business associations and organizations representing persons with disabilities.

In a news release the province said it was looking for impartial answers.  “The Board expressed the importance that future decisions about taxicabs in Winnipeg are informed by facts and the perspectives of taxicab owners, drivers, organizations who rely on these services and the general public.”

A telephone survey will also run over the next six weeks.
