Saskatoon police seized two vehicles after a drag race on 8th Street East where speeds were over double the speed limit.

The race happened on Sunday at around 1:30 a.m. CT.

Traffic officers stopped the speeders in the area of 8th Street and Boychuck Drive after they were clocked at 139 km/h.

The speed limit on 8th Street in that area is 60 km/h.

Along with having their vehicles impounded for seven days, the two drivers, 16 and 19, were each given a $576 speeding ticket and a $175 fine under the Traffic Safety Act for driving in a contest of speed.
