Police, city investigating after taxi sends cyclist flying onto sidewalk

Toronto police are looking to speak with four witnesses to find out what happened before a taxi hit a bicycle, sending a cyclist flying onto a sidewalk.

A video shared on social media shows the cyclist riding beside the silver 2011 Toyota Camry taxi on Bay Street south of Bloor Street West when the cyclist hit the passenger side of the cab with his hand – that’s when the cab turned toward the man forcing him off the road.

“You’re going to jail. That is assault,” the cyclist yelled to the taxi driver after telling the person who shot the video that he was OK.

Officers want to speak with anyone who may have seen the collision, or any interactions between the cyclist and taxi driver leading up to the incident, before determining if any charges will be laid.

Police said the cyclist suffered minor injuries.

The incident happened on Thursday during the evening rush hour in downtown Toronto.

A Toronto police spokesperson told Global News on Tuesday the investigation is still ongoing. City of Toronto bylaw staff are also looking into the matter.
