The male victim was found dead trapped in a charity bin on 150 Street near 104 Avenue, in an empty lot next to Stuart Chiropractic.

Surrey RCMP say a passerby saw a man seemingly stuck inside the bin and the Surrey Fire Department, along with RCMP officers, were called to the scene.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner is now investigating the cause.

Surrey RCMP’s General Investigation Unit is leading this investigation. At this point they say the death does not appear to be suspicious but they are not releasing his identity at this time.

Officers will be canvassing the neighbourhood for witnesses and/or video surveillance.

Last September a homeless woman died after being pulled from a donation bin in Pitt Meadows.

Charities like Big Brother are defending the bins, saying they are to industry standard and the design, with a narrow chute, is supposed to prevent tragedies like this.
