WINNIPEG — Soccer star, Desiree Scott greeted cheering fans at the Winnipeg airport Tuesday morning, donning her Rio Olympic bronze medal around her neck.
Scott, along with Winnipeg-born Sophie Schmidt and her teammates won the bronze medal in women’s soccer for the second Olympics in a row, beating hosts Brazil in their own backyard. Canada took the game 2-1.

The 29-year-old midfielder arrived at the airport around 10:30 a.m., and was hugged by her family and cheered on by the crowd.
“It feels amazing, always so happy to come home,” Scott said. “It’s even better coming home with some hardware this time.”
This is her second Olympic bronze medal. Scott and Team Canada also placed third at the London 2012 Olympics.
“Winnipeg has always been such huge supporters with my career and the Canadian women’s national team. I am very proud and happy for everyone who showed up today.”
Scott also played for FC Northwest, before starring for the University of Manitoba Bisons. During that time Scott also suited up the Vancouver Whitecaps FC of the W League and played her way onto the radar of the national team program.
