Close to 60 firefighters, four helicopters and three fire trucks are at the scene.

“They are backing us up with their expertise and helping provide resources as well,”

The wildfire is currently 35 per cent contained.

The fire was reported around 3 p.m. Friday afternoon and it was initially estimated to be one hectare in size. The area was under an extreme fire danger rating.

Leggatt says winds have slowed down, but there’s no estimate on when the fire will be fully contained.

She says there is currently no risk to the public because of the location of the fire.

“There’s no concerns for structures or residences at this time, it’s a very remote area,” Leggatt said.

However fire crews are asking the public to stay away from the area and from the Chilliwack River – particularly Alison Pool – because it’s being use by helicopters to pick up water.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
