Dorval residents are working to make their city a little greener – one tree at a time.
In all, they hope to plant 7,600 new trees in the next ten years.

Éco-quartier Lachine is in charge of the program and so far, officials say demand is off the charts.
“It’s going very well,” said spokesperson Femke Bergsma.
“More and more trees are being ordered. Every year we see an upgrade. This spring we sold about 3,000 trees, so that’s a lot.”
The City of Montreal is planning to plant 375,000 trees in time for its 375th birthday next year.

The goal is to increase the tree canopy by 5 per cent by 2025.
This year, $12.9 million went towards environmental projects, as part of the city’s green goals.
Nevertheless, there is one big challenge: while some trees are being planted, others are being cut down.
“We have a problem with the emerald ash borer,” Bergsma told Global News.
“People are calling us because they had to cut down their trees because of disease and need to replace it with something else.”

Residents interested in planting a tree can order one online through the GRAME website.
A regular tree costs $25 and a fruit tree is $35.
Public works will deliver the trees starting in October.
