RCMP said two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the discovery of six victims of an assault in two different areas of northern Alberta early Sunday morning.
According to police, officers responded to an emergency call at a home on the Gift Lake Metis Settlement after several assaults were reported there. When officers arrived, they found three victims who were rushed to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Mounties said officers began hunting a pair of suspects in connection with the assaults as well as in connection with an earlier attack on two other victims. They said gun and vehicle-related offences took place in that event.
Later on Sunday, High Prairie RCMP, with help from Slave Lake RCMP and High Level RCMP, executed a search warrant at a Slave Lake hotel room during which they arrested the two suspects and discovered a sixth assault victim in the same room. Police said it is not clear how the sixth victim ended up in the room and that they were also rushed to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Keith Carifelle, a 29-year-old man from Cadotte Lake, has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of failure to comply with a recognizance, assault, assault with a weapon, break and enter with intent, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon contrary to an order, uttering threats and mischief under $5,000.
Dwayne Cardinal, a 20-year-old man from Peace River has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, break and enter with intent, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats and mischief under $5,000.
Both of the accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in High Prairie Provincial Court on Monday.
