A man and woman were rushed to hospital with serious stab wounds following an incident in Huntington Hills Monday morning.
Police were called to a home on Huntcroft Road northeast at about 7:45 a.m.
In a release Monday, police said they found a man in life-threatening condition and a woman in serious condition inside the home.
A spokesperson for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) described the injuries as “traumatic.”
Neighbour Sean Espoenko said, “I just heard a woman yell kinda and then some banging at her door.”
Another neighbour, Daniel Jackson, said his wife heard someone screaming from the home next door around 7:30.
“The paramedics were already on site and were asking … one of the victims if there was any more wounds, any more stab wounds that she had. She was just panicking and asking for her son,” Jackson said.
The victims were taken to Foothills Hospital.
“We’ve known them for about four years now. They moved in and I think they’re from Saskatchewan,” explained Jackson.
Police said two other adults and three children inside the house at the time of the incident were not injured.
A teenager who lives upstairs told neighbours she saw the crime scene before police arrived, and that the people living downstairs were friends of the family. Neighbours told Global News the home is owned by the family’s grandparents.
“Very sweet people, they were always very nice,” said Jackson.
“We helped each other out. We could see them in our backyard all the time. The grandpa liked to tend to his plants and stuff — he was usually out there all day and all night.”
Sean Espoenko expressed a similar sentiment. “They seem like a nice family. Hard working people,” he said.
Investigators are trying to locate a suspect in the area.
Police said they do not believe the attack was random, and confirmed that child services is lending support.
