Saskatoon’s St. Paul’s Hospital considering lockers to combat patient thefts

Reoccurring thefts at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon have officials considering options to combat the problem.

Earlier this week, Global News spoke with Don Linklater, who had his glasses, overnight pack and shaving kit stolen while staying as a patient at St. Paul’s.

While screening visitors is not on the table, other measures are being considered, including lockers.

“We’re talking 250 – 300 lockers,” said Jean Morrison, St. Paul’s Hospital president and CEO.

“We’re going to be checking out the cost of different options and considering how long it would take to do it.”

Morrison said once that is done, they’ll decide what option to go with and determine a timeline to implement the measures.

While hospital theft is not uncommon, what is unique are allegations stolen items are being sold in a black market just outside the building.
