Occupy Vancouver movement one year later: Protesters gather downtown

It has been one year since the Occupy Vancouver movement, and a small group of protesters gathered downtown on Monday night to mark the occasion.

It started with about 20 people outside the Federal Offices on West Georgia Street. As the group grew they marched down Georgia Street chanting ‘Stephen Harper’s got to go’.

The crowd drew to 75 as they gathered outside the Vancouver Art Gallery, the site of the Occupy encampment last year, and then marched to the Enbridge offices on Burrard Street.

The protest coincided with marches in other Canadian cities on the opening day of parliament.

The Vancouver group planned the event through a Facebook page.

Their reason behind the event:

“Why? It’s the one year anniversary of #OWS. Enbridge is definitely part of the 1%. Let’s honor the movement that has ignited a new wave of those that care. Whether you are an Occupier, a concerned citizen, or just have that feeling like something ain’t right. Stand up and be counted.”
