WATCH ABOVE: Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for parts of Greater Montreal for Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures expected to feel like it's 40°C. Global's Navneet Pall reports – Aug 10, 2016

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for parts of Greater Montreal.

The humidex is expected to reach 40°C Wednesday and Thursday.

Temperatures will still be high on Friday and are expected to feel like 38°C, but with a chance of thunderstorms.

The heat warning in effect for:

  • Montreal island
  • Châteauguay-La Prairie
  • Laval
  • Longueuil-Varennes

While heat can put everyone at risk from illnesses, health risks are greatest for:

  • Seniors
  • Infants and young children
  • People with chronic illnesses such as breathing difficulties, heart conditions or psychiatric illnesses
  • People who work or exercise in the heat
  • Homeless people
  • People without access to air conditioning

Experts recommend that Montrealers drink plenty of liquids, especially water before feeling thirsty to decrease a risk of dehydration.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
