REGINA – Battle lines are being drawn over a proposed new electoral map for Saskatchewan that would see change in all 14 federal ridings.
A boundaries commission has started holding hearings on the proposed changes, which include creating strictly urban ridings in Regina and Saskatoon.

Speakers who have made presentations to the commission so far say they don’t like the idea of urban-only ridings.
One man, Art Gillies, says the current setup forces MPs to understand many issues rather than just focusing on urban or rural concerns.

That would seem to contradict what the commission heard at the outset of the redistribution process.
The commission says a considerable number of people voiced almost unanimous opposition to the continued use of hybrid urban-rural ridings.
