West Edmonton area evacuated after report of improvised explosive

Edmonton police are investigating after a pipe bomb damaged a door of a west end building.

Police responded to an area around 114 Avenue and 152 Street at 8 a.m. after getting a call that a improvised explosive device had caused visible damage to a building. Police said there was minimal damage to a door after a pipe bomb went off.

The building and surrounding area were evacuated as a precautionary measure, but there was no risk to public safety, police said.

The area was reopened early Monday afternoon.

Police are investigating the incident, but there are no suspects at this time.
