A funeral service was held Monday for Sylvie Roy, the longtime member of Quebec’s legislature who died suddenly just over a week ago.
Roy, 51, died of acute hepatitis in a Quebec City hospital on July 31.

The leaders of the province’s three major political parties, including Premier Philippe Couillard, all attended the service in Trois-Rivières, Que.

Roy represented the rural riding of Arthabaska in the legislature since 2003, first under the Action Démocratique du Québec (ADQ) banner, then as a member of the Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ), then as an independent for the last year of her life.

A public visitation was held Sunday for the former lawyer, who has been described as one of the first and strongest voices in favour of a public inquiry into corruption in Quebec’s construction industry.
