On Wednesday, organizers released the program and announced tickets were on sale.

The 11-day event is the oldest and largest fringe festival in North America. It has roots with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe – the world’s largest arts festival that dates back to 1947.

The Edmonton theatre festival also features buskers, outdoor performers, artisans and vendors.

Shows this year include Confessions of a Middle Aged Drama Queen, Anatolia Speaks, God is a Scottish Drag Queen IV, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Working and Matt & Ben.

Edmonton Tourism says the city is seeing fewer regional visitors but more locals checking out events here.

“What we are seeing this year, which is kind of neat, is a lot of locals, who are maybe choosing to be more cautious with their spending and their vacations, staying in Edmonton and taking in those festivals and events that they are sometimes out of town for,” Renée Williams said.
