Dirtbiker rescued in the hills above Lake Country

Search and rescue officials say a dirtbiker did all the right things after becoming stranded in the bush Monday night.

The man’s bike broke down in the hills above Lake Country.

He was equipped with a SPOT emergency beacon and activated it once he realized he needed help.

“The subject’s motorbike suffered a mechanical breakdown, so he ended up being stranded in the vicinity of Echo Lake,” said COSAR Search Manager Ephraim Nowak.

He says the rider was well-prepared for the conditions and did all the right things to make the rescue a success.

“The rider made a trip plan and told a family member where he was going. He also took a SPOT Personal Tracker, allowing him to send a distress signal which brought rescue crews right to his location. Once activated, the rider stayed where he was until rescue crews arrived,” said Nowak.

The rider’s bike was put on a trailer and hauled out of the bush without incident.
