12-year-old boy from Ont. involved in fatal MVA on highway near Wilcox, Sask.

At around 7 a.m. CT on Saturday morning, Milestone RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision east of Wilcox, Sask.

A minivan with Ontario plates was travelling eastbound on Highway 39 when it collided with a semi-truck.

A 12-year-old boy passenger of the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Six other minivan passengers including two men, ages 34 and 37, a 33-year-old woman and three minors, ages 15, 13, and 12, were transported to hospital by STARS air ambulance with unknown injuries.

RCMP have confirmed all seven occupants of the minivan were Ontario residents. The 57-year-old driver of the semi received minor injuries and was not transported to hospital.

RCMP and the collision reconstruction unit are investigating and believe alcohol was not a factor.

Highway 39 has now been fully reopened to traffic as of 7 p.m.
