MONTREAL – Shortly before 1 p.m Saturday, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Montreal area, including Varennes, Longueuil, Châteauguay and La Prairie.
Global’s weather specialist, Ross Hull, confirmed the warning in a tweet.
Not long after, the sky over Montreal turned black and rain came pouring down.
Some Montrealers even reported hail in their neighbourhood, although it didn’t quite reach the forecast “toonie size”.
Montreal’s Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie borough seems to have been particularly hard hit.
Global News reached out to the fire department concerning reports of two citizens who needed rescuing after their car became stuck in flood waters, but have yet to hear back.
The flooding reportedly occurred at an underpass on de Lormier Avenue and des Carrières Street in Rosemont.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were also issued for the Eastern Townships and much of southern Quebec.
Environment Canada is reminding Quebecers that lightning generated during storms can be deadly and to heed the following warning: “Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
