Woman charged with manslaughter in Big Island Lake Cree Nation, Sask. death

A woman has been charged with manslaughter following a suspicious death on the Big Island Lake Cree Nation in Saskatchewan.

Multiple people were attending a social gathering at a home on the evening of July 15 when a fight broke out.

Cynder Robinson, 17, was taken to another home on the reserve, where she was pronounced dead after attempts by first responders to save her were unsuccessful.

Robinson is from Taber, Alta., but was residing in Big Island Lake Cree Nation at the time of her death.

Brandy Arnelle Benson, 21, was arrested by police on Wednesday and charged with manslaughter.

Mounties say Robinson and Benson were known to each other.

Benson will make her first court appearance on Friday in Meadow Lake.

Pierceland RCMP and members of the major crime unit continue to investigate.
