People usually want to avoid receiving a ticket, but this summer, Penticton RCMP are issuing a unique ticket that people will want to get because they can trade in for frozen treats.
RCMP and community police officers will be handing out ‘positive tickets’ to people observed wearing helmets.
The campaign is done in collaboration with the South Okanagan Similkameen Brain Injury Society (SOSBIS) to remind people that wearing a helmet can prevent injuries and save lives.
“Brain injuries are not curable,” said Linda Sankey, the executive director of the SOBIS.
“It’s more common than all the other major illnesses put together: diabetes, HIV, breast cancer…so, we’re trying to do what we can to get the word out because the implications are long lasting and they don’t just affect the individual who’s become injured, it affects the whole family as well.”
The campaign kicked off on Tuesday and will end after the September long weekend.
