Winnipeg runner advances to 800-metre semifinals at World U20 Championships

Winnipeg’s Victoria Tachinski has qualified for the semifinals in the women’s 800-metre race at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Poland.

The Vincent Massey Collegiate student finished third in her heat with a time of 2:08.48. The top four in each pool plus the next four fastest move on to the next round.

Eight runners will advance from tomorrow’s semifinals to the championship race on Thursday.

Tachinski sits third in the world under-18 800-metre rankings. She is seeded first in the event among all North American high school girls and sixth for all age groups in Canada. Tachinski broke the national under-18 outdoor 800-metre record last month with a time of 2:03.58. She also owns Canadian youth indoor records in the 300m, 400m and 600m distances.
