Montreal Guinness World Record Pokemon Go Gathering searches for new venue

WATCH ABOVE: The Pokémon Go crazy hits Canada.

Organizers of the Montreal Guinness World Records Pokemon Go Gathering are hastily looking for a new place to congregate after being told thousands of people cannot be at the Mount Royal lookout without a permit.

The event was scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 23.

According to the City of Montreal, a permit request needs to be done at least 90 days in advance.

“You have to obtain public liability insurance coverage when holding events on public property,” the city’s website states.

“The city has adopted bylaws to ensure that these events pose no public safety hazard.”

More than 1,900 Pokemon Go players had said they would be attending the event.

Another 5,1000 people indicated they were interested.

There is no word on whether anyone from Guinness World Records was invited to attend the event.

In order for the gathering to be entered into the book, either sufficient evidence must be provided or an official must be present.
