Spending a day at the Calgary Stampede can be a pricey proposition for a lot of people. But you don’t always have to go to the grounds to enjoy the fun of the fair.
That’s what more than 300 got the chance to do Tuesday, at the annual Stampede barbecue Horizon Housing puts on for its fixed-income tenants.
“It’s awesome,” tenant Paige Tyndall said. “It’s nice to get everyone out, and the treats and stuff.”
The treats Tyndall and her six-year-old son Preston were enjoying included sno cones and cookies, with guests also getting a chance to lasso a plastic cow head and get their faces painted. All of it was free of charge to tenants of the seven buildings Horizon Housing operates around Calgary.
“I think it’s great,” tenant Mike Pineo said. “A lot of people can’t afford to go to Stampede. They bring Stampede to us. You can see the community here.”
Tenant Lori Leopold agreed.
“I’ve met a lot of people here that I’ve only seen around the halls, and now I’ve actually met them, so that was really nice.”
