Autopsy hopes to shed light into suspicious death in Kelowna

Little is known about the circumstances surrounding a suspicious death of a 48-year-old woman. But Kelowna RCMP are releasing her name in hopes the public can help piece together what happened during her final hours.

Rita Maria LeHockey’s body was found around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday at a backyard garage in the 800-block of Cawston Avenue.

“The investigation is ongoing at this time and RCMP continue to secure the scene,” said Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey in a news release. “The Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section continue to work closely with the BC Coroner Service. An autopsy is expected to be completed in the coming days and investigators are awaiting its results to aid in determining an exact cause of Rita’s death.”

RCMP say the circumstances of LeHockey’s death are still uncertain and it’s still being treated as suspicious.

A 53-year-old man was brought into police custody for questioning, but has now been released.

Kelowna RCMP would like to hear from anyone with any information about the sudden death or the time leading up to it.
