Police dog chases down Red Deer man after truck is stolen

An Alberta man is facing chargers after someone rolled a stolen truck and tried to run from police in Red Deer over the weekend.

Early Saturday morning, Red Deer RCMP set up a spike strip after seeing a stolen Ford F350 being driven through the Inglewood neighbourhood. Police said before the truck hit the device, the driver tried to make a sharp turn but the vehicle rolled twice.

The driver fled on food before being chased down in a field by a police dog, according to RCMP.

The truck was reported stolen at a 2:30 a.m. the same morning from a home in the Clearview neighbourhood.

Derek Wesley Lozynsky, 23, is facing a list of charges, including theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, and resisting a peace officer.

Lozynsky was scheduled to appear in Red Deer’s Alberta Provincial Court Monday morning.
